From "The Kreutzer" to "Ode to Joy", Beethoven poured his passion into his work direct from every fibre of his being.
The Vienna Woods played a huge part in his life from boyhood to manhood and even to his final days.
It was the sanctuary he ran to to escape his cruel father, where he lay, spent from running, in a pond at night, staring up into the stars and humming the first bars of an epic anthem written many years later, to a cursed place where his coach lost an axle in the rain and prevented him from meeting up with his "Immortal Beloved". This monster was my attempt at trying to tell that story abstract on a huge black impasto canvas.
