Probably the most well received piece Ive ever made.
Painting it was more a focussed performance rather than a process. I just turned up the music and got lost in it.
As usual Im fascinated with the light in shallow water. The cool and the warm mingling in the same space. The intersection of opposites, and the emphasis of inevitable duality. Its the single recurring theme in all my work.

This is so simple but beautiful - sunlight on water - but it could be before the dawn of life billions of years ago or some quiet island shore painted from a memory.

this is pretty awesome. I don't know why I like it so much. I'm usually really bored with seascapes that don't have sea monsters in them. But it's perfect. If a mermaid came swimming by I'd tell her to take a hike.

in the end, literally everything is a colour and a shape.
But sometimes you gotta slow down your "seeing" until you can differentiate between
one coloured shape and another.
Theres also a technical trick in this process.
See the main wave at the back? It gives the illusion that you can see through it to the light on the bottom of the sand. But I painted the wave both the blues and the darks in between, then I painted the criss/crosses of light ONTOP of that paint, otherwise it would be buried under the blues and the darks.
Make sense?
